GraphEvoResearcher: Graph-Aware Training-Free Self-Reflective Reasoning for Cost-Bounded Multi-Hop Question Answering
Multi-hop question answering (QA) requires models to chain intermediate conclusions while remaining cost-aware. Existing training-free self-reflective protocols (generate -> critique -> revise) improve accuracy but operate on a flat token stream: revisions cannot identify which prior step is unreliable, and early stopping cannot exploit structural convergence. We introduce GraphEvoResearcher, a training-free protocol that lifts EvoResearcher's self-reflective meta-reward onto an explicit reasoni
A Stress-Induced Tetragonal Distortion in K2OsCl6 under Pressure
The structural behaviour of cubic (Fm-3m) K2OsCl6 under compression was investigated to 35.4 GPa using angle-dispersive synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction. Upon increasing pressure, K2OsCl6 undergoes a sequence of structural transformations from the ambient-pressure cubic phase to a tetragonal (P4/mnc) phase above 9.5(3) GPa, followed by a transition to a monoclinic (P21/n) phase beginning at approximately 14.2 GPa. The tetragonal and monoclinic phases coexist over the pressure range 14.2-17.2
Simulating Infant Senses with Age-Tuned Networks
What a newborn sees, hears and feels, and how this changes month by month, has been measured sense by sense, with different methods and in different units. We bring these measurements together for the first two years of life and ask whether small neural networks tuned to a given age can turn them into a quick, inspectable simulation of sensory perception. Each sense's immaturity is written as a fixed, age-indexed filter on the input, and a small prediction network learns behind it over the first

The face of a silver-colored statue of Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis lasted only about 30 minutes in the Florida sun before it melted away to reveal a skeleton underneath. The 6-foot-tall statue called “Denial” was unveiled on October 13 at the Prime Meridian Plaza in Tallahassee, Florida. It’s a work of protest art commissioned by the climate advocacy group 350Action and produced by Uncommon Creative Studio ahead of the midterms, and it’s meant to d

A massive new study of thousands of kids says this one experience gives them a very big advantage
I admit: I’ve spent a lot of time since becoming a parent trying to figure out what cutting-edge research and science have to say about raising successful kids. I also admit that my wife and I have tried to put the fruits of that research to work. Example 1: Move to the best neighborhood you can afford, even if it means you have the smallest house on the block. Check. Example 2: Embrace the “run to their side” mode of parenting versus the “let them figure it all out on their own” model. C

Spontaneous brain-wide rotational dynamics constrain cue-evoked behavior
Uncovering low-dimensional representations of brain-wide neural dynamics and their relationship to behavior remains a central challenge. Here, we show that spontaneous brain-wide rotational dynamics constrain cue-evoked behavior and learning. To systematically establish these findings, we developed a dimensionality-reduction technique called Rotational Component Analysis (RCA) that optimizes the detection of low-variance rotational modes even within individual trials. We applied RCA to motor-cor

6 kinds of fear at work—and how to overcome them
When I’m teaching MBA students or executives or when I’m working in my role as an adviser to family-owned enterprises, I spend enormous energy looking for evidence of an emotion people try to hide. That emotion is fear. Humans underestimate how much fear drives our behavior. We’re familiar with the “fight or flight” response that helped our prehistoric ancestors survive in a dangerous world, but we fail to appreciate how much this evolutionary imperative lives on within our biology—and how mu

ClueFlow: Learning Long-Horizon Search through Attributed Research-State Transitions
Long-horizon search requires agents to acquire relevant evidence and integrate it into an evolving research state. Existing methods maintain research states to guide exploration or assign turn-level progress signals, yet grounding these signals in explicit, attributable state changes remains underexplored. We introduce ClueFlow, which learns long-horizon search from attributed research-state transitions. ClueFlow constructs Source-State-Final attribution chains that connect evidence-acquiring br

On the Benefits of Uncertainty Estimation for Species Classification: A Case Study on Optimizing Expert re-Annotation
Automated identification of diatoms from microscopic images is a cornerstone of large-scale freshwater biomonitoring, yet the high diversity of species and strong class imbalance pose significant challenges for reliable classification. In this study, we develop a ResNet-18 baseline for a 759-class diatom dataset and investigate how calibrated confidence estimates support selective classification to reduce expert workload without sacrificing taxonomic integrity. While the initial model exhibits o
